Vulnerable Adult Abuse

The Adult Protective Services Act (APSA) was
enacted in part to address adult abuse,
principally from health care providers and care
providers including nursing home and care
facilities. Our aging population is continuously
susceptible. The legislature recently increased
civil penalties and criminal sanctions for those
who prey on vulnerable adults.

A "vulnerable adult" is defined as any person,
18 or older, who cannot protect him or herself
from "abuse or neglect by others because of
physical or mental impairment".
